Why do you think this technology was invented?

Why is it used?

What would happen if it were not used?

What does the eye scan technology cause?

What events created the need for this eye scan technology?

What inventions might have come before this that inspired this?


Denotation and Connotation


Read the article carefully and look for words that might have multiple connotations.

Do you see words that have positive connotations and negative connotations?


Making Complex Inferences


Pretend you are a detective.

What situations do you think might have caused the need for this technology?

What can you infer as to the author's point of view?


Synthesizing


Try to take different pieces of information together and imagine what the result would be.

The article talks about the new technology, the high expense, and the lack of use, but the author also talks about the importance of this.

How do these different parts of the puzzle help you get a better idea of the big picture?


Comparing and Contrasting


Search the article for things that can be compared and contrasted.

How would schools with this technology be different from those without.

What are other similar problems schools might face?

Where else in the world would this technology be useful?

What are similar technologies you see used in the world?


Drawing Conclusions

What conclusions can you make about this article?

Do you think this use of technology will grow?

What do you conclude is the author's opinion of this issue?


Summarizing


Try putting the main idea of the overall article in your own words.

Try summarizing portions of the article.


Identifying Problems and Solutions


What problems do you see mentioned in this article?

What security problems exist?

What financial problems exist?

What solutions are offered for these problems?

Do you think the solutions are effective?


Analyzing


Break down the article into smaller bits.

Look at the different components mentioned in the article.

(location--type of school--expense of technology--progress of technology--security issues)

How do these small parts add to the article as a whole?


Questioning


What questions about the article did you have before you read it? (based on title, subheadings, pictures, etc.)

What questions did you have while you read?

What questions were you left with after you read the article?

These questions keep you connected to and engaged with the text you are reading.
